The West Virginia 511 Drive Safe mobile app offers drivers audible, hands-free traffic alerts directly from their smartphone. Upon starting your journey, launch the app and set your phone aside while driving. Utilizing your phone's speaker and GPS location, the WV 511 Drive Safe app will deliver audible travel advisories relevant to your current location as you travel.

Within the settings menu, users can personalize the app to reflect various advisory types (critical advisories are mandatory), adjust the interval for advisory replays, and set a specific radius of interest for receiving advisories.

How It Works:

• Receive real-time audible updates on nearby construction, accidents, traffic delays, weather advisories, and other pertinent traveler information along nearby interstates and key roadways—all while keeping your focus on the road and hands on the wheel. The WV 511 Drive Safe app will continuously update you with relevant advisories as you progress along your route.

The app includes audio player controls for Play, Pause, Stop, Skip, and Replay All functions. In the rare event that GPS signal is unavailable, the app will utilize the most accurate location tool accessible, whether it's GPS or cell tower triangulation.

No registration is required to use this app or receive alerts. No personal data is collected. By default, users are automatically included in reporting their device-determined speed and location to the servers; however, opting out is possible within the application setting. Note that this selection must be declined each time the app restarts.

The Technology:

• The app is powered by Information Logistics’ patent-pending "Open Microphone Platform," a queue-driven streaming technology integrated with your phone’s GPS system. The data utilized is sourced from NJ travel advisory data.
